Is this blog still up? I've been so busy that I nearly forgot about it. Sorry. Here are some pieces that I worked on as part of a lunch study group with Sebastien Gallego, Sam Nielsen, & Josh Black to name a few.

My friend and fellow office mate at Disney Matthew Armstrong was kind enough to share one of his homemade photoshop brushes with me. It's a sweet brush and was begging for use in a political portrait. And who better that the man himself Barack Obama.

Minnie Mouse Princess - I'm not sure what to say about this image, other than the fact that it was created for the Avalanche challenge on 'Disney Princess'. I knew I wanted to take an existing character from Disney's line up and turn her into a princess, but now that I've created her it disturbs me a little to look at it.

Recent Head studies from life

This is a stylized concept painting of the house that I grew up in as a kid. Many Saturday mornings much like this one I would come out on the porch in my underwear yelling "I have the power!!!" That's from the cartoon show "He-Man" for those who don't know.

Work has been extremely busy these days, not including the holidays. So here's some recent freelance work as well as a landscape study.

True love! Can't you just feel it!?

Every weekend my Four year old daughter and I try and get some painting or drawing time in. One of us will start something that the other will be inspired to emulate. In this case my nephew joined us and started doing an Octopus. I pulled out the acrylic paints, dusted them off and came up with this version.

I recently picked up an Ipod Touch for myself, I then downloaded the Sketchbook Mobile App, purchased the Pogo Stylus, went to a figure drawing session and here's the result. All in all I'm pretty happy with the tools. On the ipod touch screen the colors were more subdued, I resisted the urge to fix them in photoshop so you could see it in it's orginal form. This was done in about and hour.

Another editorial project for Chico News & Review. Far left is the cover and included are the two inside spot illustrations. This was a lot of fun to do!

Here's my sketches and mood board that was created for an editorial project a little while ago. The Art Director doesn't mind it when I experiment with other styles (Which is a lot of fun!) but I do include a mood board so he's not surprised at the delivery of the final image. And to give him the chance to say whether or not the style will fit the audience.

I've been super busy lately with freelance work which hasn't given me much time to post. So here's some older client work that I did while working at 8fish which was done in collaboration with some of the great artists there.

I've been doing a 'Sketch Trade' with artist that I know and work with. These are two of the ones I sketched and traded.

I was bed-ridden this past week and a half with the Flu, Sinus Infection, & Eye infections. Whenever I try to explain how I felt now one can really visualize it. So I drew a picture!

This is a study from an Ashley Wood Painting. I really enjoy his brush work so I tried to accomplish that here with a new custom brush I created in painter. After I figure out why it won't let me export the brush, I'll share it here on my blog.

Another day of speed painting. For those who may be wondering, speed painting is painting from photographic reference (Usually found on the web) in 30 minutes and done digitally (on the computer). This one was much more successful than my first two. Probably because I chose the picture this time.

I finally had some time to do an Art Challenge at work on the topic of 'Land of OZ'. No time for color, so here's the sketch.

Here's a little digital study that I did in about 45 min. I did it as warm up sketch. At the original size you can really see how loose it is, but scaled down it looks a lot tighter.

Another Friday, another Figure Drawing

Here's an old digital painting portrait that I did as a demo for my students at SLCC. Thanks to Rita for posing for it.

Here's a drawing of a Ballerina that my 3 year old daughter sketched up. I scanned it in then painted it in Painter. We gave it as a gift to my Mom (Grandma) on her birthday.

'Pisces' This is a work in progress and I'll post updates to it as it gets finished. It's for the monthly challenge at work on the topic of 'Zodiac'.

Another freelance assignment. This is the fourth year in row that I have been privileged to do a Christmas Card Illustration for 'Omniture'. Steve Gustavson is the Designer/Art Director on this one.

Here's a recently completed 'two page spread' freelance illustration for Tahitian Noni's International magazine called 'Tradewinds'. The Design on the left was created by none other than the great Shawn Hansen. Although this was a tight turnaround it was a lot of fun to do.

Another day of figure drawing. The model was deathly skinny, so it was more about getting the curve of the bones right and not the much needed curves a little fat adds.
